Trad Academy ‘Play Folk Tunes’ week 4

In the fourth and final week of the Trad Academy ‘Play Folk Tunes’ course, we covered a Scottish tune called ‘The Drunken Piper’. Really it feels like a march but can be played as a reel. I learnt it as the main tune that’s used for the Scottish country dance ‘The Reel of the 51st Division’. According to the internet it was written by Alexander MacLeod, who lived 1829-1903.

Here’s a video of me playing it:

In the video I play it up to speed first, then slowly at 1.30.

Here’s the sheet music.

Enjoy playing tunes!
